Colored Pencil, not just for kids anymore!

Ok, quick survey, how many of you have always thought that colored pencils were just for kids?  I did for many years.  At one point I tried to use them as a "real" art medium and it came out looking like kids work.  Then a friend introduced me to the Prismacolor Pencil and gave me a few pointers.  Now, my art looks like the picture you see here.  In fact, this was my first ever colored pencil "painting" after upgrading to the higher quality pencils.

I hope you keep coming back here.  I plan to discuss the colored pencil medium in great detail and explain many of the techniques that are used these days to create fantastic works of art.  I will be linking to other artists that are using the medium and discussing the work that they do.  You will be amazed to see some if their results.  These artists actually create work so realistic that you cannot tell them from a photograph!  And they use colored pencil?

You may be asking if it is necessary to use the Prismacolor Pencil brand to get the results I will be showing you.  The question is absolutely not.  However, it is vital that you use very high quality pencils.  The pencils you pick up in the kids school supply isle at your local department store simply will not do.  There are many brands that you can use and most can be purchased one pencil at a time.  You might want to purchase a single pencil from each brand and see what you like best.  The choice is up to you, but at least you will be able to make an imformed choice.

If you have any questions regarding the selection of the pencil or what to look for, feel free to shoot me an email or comment.  I will be happy to respond.

Until next time, thanks for joining me here.
